Fatih Bogaards (1992) started his PhD in November 2019. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology at the InHolland University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam. During his bachelor’s he did an internship at the Academic Medical Centre (AMC) in Amsterdam and was accepted for an Erasmus internship grant to work at the University of Liverpool. During these two internships, he focused on the activity levels of the polymerase complex of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus H5N1 and the infectivity levels of mother to child transmittable HIV-1.
After completing his bachelor program, he started the master course Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences with a Bioinformatics profile at Utrecht University (UU). During his master internship at the UU, he combined wet lab work and in silico analysis to investigate the recognition principle of the molecular chaperone Hsp90. His second master internship focused on the immune response to a mild Influenza infection on transcription level. For this project he combined scale free-network analysis with linear mixed model analysis to identify time specific differentially expressed hubgenes indicative of an Influenza A infection.
His PhD is part of the VOILA (Vitality Oriented Innovations for the Lifecourse of the Ageing Society) project and focuses on combining data from different lifestyle intervention studies.
